What is Western Piedmont Alumni email? (top)
 
Western Piedmont Alumni email is an account within a Western Piedmont- owned domain (alumni.wpcc.edu), but is administered and maintained by Google, Inc. through their Gmail system.  Any former student who has taken a course at Western Piedmont and had a previous student email account can request to have an alumni account. 
 
I am graduating soon, when will my regular student email account get deleted? (top)

Graduating students will keep their @go.wpcc.edu accounts for six months after the graduation date.  After six months, these accounts will be deleted.  Any student or alumni account showing inactivity for one (1) year will automatically be deleted.
 
I haven’t used my account in a while, will it be deleted? (top)

Any student or alumni account showing inactivity for one (1) year will automatically be deleted.
 
How do I get an alumni email account after graduation, or concluding my studies? (top)

Students who have been issued a student email account may have that account switched to an alumni account after graduation, or when concluding their studies at Western Piedmont.  Contact the alumni email administrator at alumniadmin@alumni.wpcc.edu, or complete the online form, and request an alumni account be set up.  The administrator will need your seven digit student ID and full name, or you can complete the online Alumni Email Request form. Upon verification, you will be issued an alumni account within 30 days.
 
Note:  If you plan on forwarding email or exporting contacts from your go.wpcc.edu account, be sure you request an alumni account before the six month deadline.
 
What if I don't want a WPCC Alumni Gmail account? (top)

No problem.  Just don’t request to have one created.  Of course, even if we set one up for you, you are under no obligation to use it.
 
I've heard that Google scans the text in emails of Gmail accounts. Is that true? (top)

Well, yes, but probably not in the way you might be thinking.  Google does use software or a “bot” to scan Gmail emails for key words for the purposes of targeted advertising.  Google then places small, unobtrusive, and relevant text ads alongside your Gmail messages, similar to those on the side of Google search results pages. The matching of ads to content is a completely automated process performed by computers. No humans read your email to target the ads, and no email content or other personally identifiable information is ever provided to advertisers.
 
I want to keep some of my email messages from my old account. What should I do? (top)

There are a couple of options for holding on to messages from your @go.wpcc.edu account.  Bear in mind that any of these steps must be taken BEFORE your @ go.wpcc.edu account closure date.  Once your @ go.wpcc.edu account has been closed, all email within that original account is lost.  Suggestions for keeping old messages:

  • Save email messages you wish to keep to your hard drive as txt or htm files (depending on whether the email message was text or html). You can do this by opening the message and choosing: FILE > SAVE AS.
  • Forward email messages you wish to keep to an alternate email account (e.g., Yahoo!, Hotmail, etc.). 
  • Forwarding instructions are listed below:
  1. Log in to your @alumni.wpcc.edu account
  2. Click Settings at the top of the Google email page
  3. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab along the top of the Mail Settings box.
  4. Enter the forwarding email address in the textbox where it states “Forward a copy of incoming mail to ____
  5. Next, select the action you'd like your messages to take from the drop-down menu. Since your student account will be closed, we suggest you choose the options “ Delete, the WPCC Mail’s copy from your inbox”.
  6. Save Changes


Why can't WPCC just forward email from my go.wpcc.edu account? (top)

For  IT to perform a one-time forwarding of all the messages currently in your inbox is not possible. This would be an extremely laborious task, since a forwarding address would have to be manually entered for every email account of every graduating student.
 
How do I keep all the contacts I had saved in my student account? (top)

You can export the entire Contacts list, from your student account (@go.wpcc.edu) as a .csv file and then import it directly into your new WPCC alumni account (@alumni.wpcc.edu).  Bear in mind that the export must be performed BEFORE your student account is deleted. 

Instructions for saving your Google contacts list:

  1. Log into your Google email account
  2. Click on Contacts (left side menu at bottom)
  3. Click the Export link (upper right side)
  4. Click the "Only - My Contacts" radio button under "Who do you want to Export"
  5. Click the Export button 
  6. Save the file to your desktop, flash drive, or other location, when prompted. It will save as a .csv file.
  7. When your alumni email account is created, just import your contact list using the Import link (upper right side.

How do I forward incoming messages from my Alumni account to another email account I have? (top)

Your WPCC Alumni account lets you automatically forward incoming mail to another address, if you'd like. Here's how to forward messages automatically:

  1. Log in to your alumni.wpcc.edu account.
  2. Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page.
  3. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab along the top of the Mail Settings box.
  4. Enter the forwarding email address in the textbox where it states “Forward a copy of incoming mail to ____
  5. Next, select the action you'd like your messages to take from the drop-down menu.
  6. Click Save Changes.

How much storage space will I have in the new alumni account? (top)

You should have the same as your student email account.  Google is constantly increasing the amount of storage space available.
